Reminder: Officials Have An Obligation To Be Transparent
The Gazette opens with a definition of integrity: how you behave when you know you won’t get caught, and how you behave when you believe there won’t be consequences even if you do. That second kind is what New York’s transparency laws actually run on. The paper notes that the conviction of a Saratoga Springs city commissioner on a FOIL violation was a rare exception, not the rule. The start of a new year, with new faces on many local boards, is the moment to say so.
