Now, he’s written a how-to guide for prying records out of government agencies’ hands.
Mazur was the NYPD’s records access appeals officer, fielding tens of thousands of requests at one of the busiest agencies in the state. His self-published manual, “FOIL Made Simple,” argues that patience, precision and a working relationship with the records officer beat a combative FOIL request almost every time.
