Some great reforms are happening in South Dakota, that NY should consider as well:
- Meeting agendas must be posted online 72 hours before a meeting occurs
- Executive Sessions must be recorded
- They are considering a law to require municipalities with a population of 5,000 to record meetings and post the recordings online
Governor Larry Rhoden signed a package of open government laws in February that included the 72-hour agenda posting requirement and revisions to the state’s executive session rules. New York’s Open Meetings Law still requires agenda documents to be posted only to the extent practicable, and only when they are scheduled to be discussed.
