Reinvent Albany offers immediate, practical steps the Governor, Legislature, and Judiciary can take to increase the transparency of our state and local governments.
Several of these government transparency steps need no legislation at all. The Governor can direct agencies to switch on the electronic-appeal and Archives features they already pay for in the state’s FOIL software. The Senate can post its confirmation votes. The list of things that do need a bill is short and specific: four FOIL bills, and an Open Meetings Law update before the videoconferencing provisions sunset on July 1, 2026.
