The Erie County Sheriff wants a new $10 million helicopter and cites rescues as a reason why. But records don’t indicate if any of the rescues saved people in life-threatening situations.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Dept wants a new helicopter at a cost of $10 million. Investigative Post filed a FOIL request to find out how often the current helicopter has been used.
 
The FOIL request was initially denied on the basis that providing flight records would endanger lives and public safety.
 
At least the Sheriff’s Dept. realized that it was an absurd argument to deny the FOIL on the basis that providing the records would endanger lives or safety. It took 119 days, but the requested records were provided.
