New York judges make thousands of decisions in their criminal cases every year, but only a small fraction are ever seen by the public.
Between 0.5 and 6 percent of written criminal court decisions get published, by the count of the groups behind the Criminal Court Opinion Transparency Act. The version lawmakers passed does not require publishing them. It asks the court system to study whether publishing them is feasible and report back.
