There should be nothing secretive about filling the vacancy of an elected office. Yet time after time we see things like what is happening with the Beacon School Board.
“The board said at least two people have expressed interest in the seat but did not release their names.”
The names and resumes of those seeking appointment should be made available to the public and any interviews by the Board should also occur in public. Too many public bodies think that it is acceptable and legal to fill a vacancy to a public office in secret, which is not the case.
