The original Freedom of Information Law went into effect on September 1, 1974. Where is FOIL 50 years later? Has the legislative intent been met?

As rightly noted in this excellent editorial in The Daily Gazette, much work remains to be done.

“Now, 50 years later, the aging law is in serious need of a life-affirming revitalization to overcome government’s growing desire for secrecy and its increasing willingness to use its power and our tax dollars to flout the law and to fight citizen challenges to the denial of records.”
